Millions of Americans are living with some degree of tooth loss. Even with more treatment options and access to preventive dental care than ever, over 40% of adults over age 30 are missing at least one tooth, and 40 million are missing all of their natural teeth according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In addition to the cosmetic and personal problems like loss of confidence and self esteem, tooth loss also poses a threat to your oral and general health. But there are many options available to help you get back your smile, your confidence, and your oral health. Dr. James Reid Roberts, a family dentist in Peachtree City, GA, recommends dental implants for adult patients in good health looking for a permanent solution for full or partial tooth loss.
Replace Missing Teeth and Improve Your Oral Health with Dental Implants in Peachtree City, GA
Dental implants are unique in that they replace the root of the missing tooth as well as the crown. This has a number of advantages, from creating a secure anchor for the cosmetic crown to preventing bone loss in the gums, a side effect of tooth loss and a big risk factor for gum disease and other oral health complications.
Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants
Here is what you need to know about dental implants.
Q: What are Dental Implants?
A: An implant is a small, screw shaped prosthetic device made from biocompatible titanium. It's surgically placed in the socket of a missing tooth in place of the root, and fuses with the surrounding bone tissue through a process called osseointegration. This helps to prevent the loss of healthy bone tissue, and to secure the implant in place. After the healing period is complete, the dentist will attach a cosmetic crown and your new implant will look and function just like a natural tooth. The implant isn't visible when you smile, so no one will know - unless you decide to tell them!
Q: Am I a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
A: Implants are available for adult patients who are in good general health. There must also be enough bone tissue in the gums to support the implant.
Q: Are Dental Implants Safe?
A: Implants have a very high success rate, but they must be cared for in order to lower the risk of complications. In order to qualify for dental implants, patients must be able to keep up a rigorous oral hygiene routine, be in a good health, and keep up with regular follow up dental care.
Q: How Long do Dental Implants Last?
A: As with any dental restoration, the results vary from case to case. But with adequate care, implants have been shown to last for as much as 20 years.

Are you suffering from tooth decay? Have you considered tooth-colored fillings? In Peachtree City, GA, your Brilliant Smiles general family dentist can help you get the smile you want.
More About Tooth-colored Fillings
Tooth-colored fillings, also known as composite resin, can be accomplished in one visit; the procedure may take about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your dental needs. The composite used is made of plastic resin and finely ground glass-like particles, which is used to fix issues, such as chips and cracks, fractures, decays, discolored and stained teeth, and short teeth.
Fillings and Dental Bonding in Peachtree City
In order to prepare your teeth for the composite, your general dentist will clean your teeth to ensure they're plaque-free. Then they'll etch your teeth with an acidic gel that will open pores on the surface of your teeth. The general family dentist will then rinse the etching material with composite resin that matches the color of your teeth. The last step consists of the composite being hardened in place with a curing light and your teeth shaped into the right form using a drill.
Advantages of Tooth-colored Composite
After your doctor has finished the procedure, your teeth will look natural, especially if the tooth being filled is visible while you smile. Some other advantages include:
- Your teeth will look natural, so you won't feel self-conscious when you smile
- The composite strengthens your teeth, so you don't have to worry about applying too much pressure
Dental bondings require the same care as all your teeth. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day, after breakfast and before bed, and floss at least once. This will help keep your teeth healthy and avoid new cavities in your new tooth-colored fillings.

Dental implants provide an excellent option if you need to fill gaps in your smile. Long-lasting implants, offered by your Peachtree City, GA, dentist, Dr. James Reid Roberts of Brilliant Smiles Dental, feel more like natural teeth and may never need to be replaced.
Dental implants get to the root of the issue with restorations
Innovative dental implants replace your missing tooth roots with titanium posts. These synthetic root replacements gradually bond to your jawbone over several months, becoming just as strong as your natural tooth roots. Once your implants bond completely, your Peachtree City dentist attaches dental crowns to the top of them. Crowns are artificial teeth made from an impression of your mouth.
Strong roots are the key to the comfort and functionality of dental implants. Dentures and poorly fitting bridges can slip and slide because they're not anchored to roots. Luckily, your new dental crowns won't budge even if you munch on a carrot or enjoy a thick, juicy steak. Your biting power won't be affected either, thanks to your brand new titanium roots.
Although dental implants are a good choice if you've lost just one tooth, they can also be used to replace multiple teeth. Implant-supported bridges and dentures comfortably fill the gaps in your smile.
Implants keep your jaw strong
Replacing lost roots with implants prevents jawbone resorption, a common problem if you've lost teeth. When the bone is no longer stimulated by the roots, it begins to shrink. Resorption can lead to several other issues, including shifting teeth, a changing bite, increased risk for cavities due to difficulty cleaning overlapping teeth, weakened jawbone, loose teeth and facial sagging. Luckily, it's easy to avoid these issues simply by opting for dental implants.
Caring for dental implants is easy
Keeping your implants healthy is no harder than caring for your natural teeth. Daily brushing and flossing, in addition to regular dental visits, will help keep your implants in good shape. Flossing around the implants is particularly important and can help you avoid infections that may loosen your implants.

Are you dealing with a cracked or damaged tooth? If so, our Peachtree City, GA, dentist Dr. James Reid Roberts may have recommended getting a dental crown. Of course, we understand that our patients lead busy lives and that it isn’t always easy to come into the office for multiple visits; however, thorough dental care is paramount to maintaining a healthy smile. Luckily, we have found a new way to get patients the dental crown that they need in just one office visit.
It might sound too good to be true, but thanks to the continued advancements in dental technology, Brilliant Smiles Dental is now able to provide its patients with a traditional and reliable dental crown without having to come in more than once to have the tooth prepped and shaped, impressions taken and the crown fitted. Now, all of these steps can happen in just one appointment.
How? Well, you can thank CEREC technology for that. In the past, if our Peachtree City, GA, cosmetic dentist wanted to make a dental crown we had to turn to an outside dental lab to fabricate the crown based on the molds we took of your smile. Not anymore. With this specialized CAD/CAM technology it’s now possible for us to become the dental lab, too.
What can I expect when I get a CEREC crown?
Once your tooth has been prepared to make room for the crown, we will take impressions of the tooth so that we can get the exact measurements we need to make a crown that offers the ideal fit. In the past, we had to apply a putty-like material to the teeth, which could be a bit awkward and messy. Now, CEREC technology allows us to use a small digital camera to quickly snap images of your teeth. These measurements are even more precise than the traditional impressions.
Next, the images are uploaded onto the computer, where CAD software generates these photos into 3D images of your mouth. From there, the software will guide us so that we create the perfect crown. Once this is complete, we will turn to the CAM technology and milling station to read these measurements and images and start fabricating your crown. Before the milling station can begin, we will choose a block of porcelain that matches the natural shade of your teeth. From there, we will then let the milling machine get to work chiseling out your new restoration.
Once complete, we will check the fit of the crown, as well as the alignment of your bite, to make sure that everything looks good before cementing the crown permanently in place. It’s quick, easy and in just an hour or two, you could walk out of our office with a fully restored smile.
If you want to find out if CEREC crowns are right for restoring or cosmetically enhancing your smile, then it’s the perfect time to call Brilliant Smiles Dental in Peachtree City, GA, today.
